Anchor bolts are used in a variety of applications, typically to secure structures or equipment to concrete foundations. Usually the anchor bolts are placed and secured in their proper location before the concrete is poured. If the anchor bolts are not secured properly they could move due to the weight and force of the concrete or could be bumped and moved by the concrete installation crew. Often templates are used to hold the anchor bolts in their proper place so that they do no move during concrete pouring and during the curing process.

Typically the quantity, type and diameter of the anchor bolts are determined by local building codes and the engineer on the project. Calculations are made that take into account the type of structure or equipment that is being secured, the seismic zone of the construction site, wind loads and other potential forces on the equipment or structure. Typically it is also determined if the anchor bolts will need to be hot dipped galvanized in order to protect them from rust and corrosion.

Anchor bolts can be ordered in either black or galvanized depending on the requirements of the project.

The difference between the two is that “black” construction fasteners (also called plain) are uncoated fasteners that haven’t been dipped in any type of coating material. These fasteners are for those projects where galvanization is not needed.

Galvanization is a term referring to an anchor bolt that has be dipped in a bath of molten zinc in order to coat the entire fastener. The zinc outer coating is for those anchor bolts that are going to need protection from corrosion. This happens when water or moisture is introduced to the anchor bolt on a regular basis. The zinc outer coating acts as a repellent and a first defense against moisture. Galvanizing is also favored as a means of protective coating because of its low cost, ease of application and relatively long life.

Anchor bolts that are galvanized provide excellent resistance to corrosion as well as long term structural integrity in humid or coastal climates. The galvanizing process for anchor bolts involves total immersion of the anchor bolts into cleaning solutions and molten zinc. All interior surfaces of the nuts as well as the exterior surfaces of the anchor bolts are coated. This includes the inside threads of nuts and the threads on anchor bolts, since corrosion tends to occur on the inside threads of nuts where there can be increased humidity and condensation can occur. Anchor bolts with no protection on the threads are more likely to corrode. Corroded anchor bolts can lead to concerns of the integrity of the structural connection.

Anchor Bolt Source provides galvanized anchor bolts that undergo the galvanizing process at the anchor bolt fabrication facility. This provides extremely competitive pricing on galvanized anchor bolts and some of the best delivery times possible. We hope you consider Anchor Bolt Source for your next requirement for galvanized anchor bolts. We are always working to provide you with the best quality, pricing and delivery of anchor bolts in the industry. Anchor Bolt Source provides high-quality, anchor bolts and embedded steel. For more information please visit the Anchor Bolt Source website.

If you under the impression that anchor bolts are used everywhere, have you considered the amount of construction fasteners that are used as well? Both are used in construction projects around the world everyday. The sole differencw between the two is the fact that construction fasteners are used by practically everyone. These types of fasteners are used in modern everyday furniture, appliances, electronics, and so much more. The list is endless.

Construction fasteners are available in many sizes and are also a bit more flexible in their uses than anchor bolts are; since anchor bolts have to be installed in cement for proper use.

This means that even everyday people who construct furniture or are building something are probably using a construction fastener to complete the job.

Construction fasteners are also very easy to install and use. The design of a construction fastener is simplistic in nature and most average people have the ability to install a fastener, especially the smaller cousins of the bigger and more commercial grade fasteners.

For more information about anchor bolts or construction fasteners please visit the Anchor Bolt Source website.

Similar to that of anchor bolts, construction fasteners can be customized for individual special uses and projects. The specifications that are used when creating a custom construction fastener are quite similar to that of anchor bolts.

When being custom created, both of these types of fasteners have to meet certain standards and pass safety testing’s before they are allowed to be released and become used in any real-life construction. Anchor bolts also undergo the same process. The construction fasteners are tested for their strength, endurance, and a few other things that hold extreme importantance to the life-span of a construction fastener.

Of course, this is assuming that the design of the construction fastener has never been created before. In the case that the customization only pertains to size, then this can easily be created in the factory with no testing needed.

Creating custom sizing for construction fasteners is rather simple and can be done quite efficiently. Manufacturer’s have no problem meeting requests to create a custom fastener for you as long as you provide them reasonable time to fill your entire order. You can discuss this with any construction fastener manufacturer.

Construction fasteners are similar to anchor bolts in that they can both created to be either black or galvanized depending on your preference.

The difference between the black and the galvanized is that “black” construction fasteners (also called plain) are uncoated fasteners that haven’t been dipped in any type of coating material. These fasteners are for projects in which galvanization is not needed.

Galvanization refers to a construction fastener that has been dipped in a liquid zinc formula that coats the entire fastener. The zinc outer coating is meant to protect the construction fastener from corrosion. Corrosion happens when water or moisture is introduced to the construction fastener on a regular basis. The zinc outer coating will act as a repellent and becomes a first line of defense against moisture.

Each type of coating is equally needed in their own way. It entirely depends upon the type of project you are undergoing. There are several types of applications used for either type of coating, and as a contractor or builder you should be familiar with which type of coating you are going to need.

Construction fasteners are used in various types of applications so it’s important to make sure you’re getting the correct fastener for the respective project. A few things should be considered when choosing a construction fastener for your project.

Here’s a basic list to help you make the right choice:

Application – What will the construction fastener be used for?
Body Design – The shape of the bolt’s body is directly correlated to the application it is suited for.
Diameter – The bigger the bolt the stronger the hold. This does not mean that you want the bolt bigger than necessary. That would be a waste of materials and will ultimately prove to be a bigger burden than its purpose.
Thread Type – Different thread types are designed to create different holds. This is important if you are working on a project that has potential to strip a bolt.
Material – The material of the bolt will also help decide the strength of the bolt. Different materials are suited for different projects just like their body design.
Drive Type – Does your project require the ability to unscrew the construction fastener easily? Or are you constructing something that needs to be a more permanent piece? Depending on the drive type the bolt can sway either way.

It’s important to be wise with your decision. If you’re unsure, try to get a professional to assist you before you make your purchase.

For more information about anchor bolts or construction fasteners please visit the Anchor Bolt Source website.

Both anchor bolts and construction fasteners have to meet government requirements and quality standards. In the anchor bolt industry both A.B.s and C.F.s have to rigorous testing in order to ensure they are completely safe and up to regulation standards. This includes testing the shear values and tensile making sure that the anchor bolt or construction fastener doesn’t immediately break upon force and/or over time due to fatigue.

Construction fasteners ultimately determine the life and usefulness of several different objects including some but not limited to the following:
- Factories

There is a difference between the construction fasteners you use in your home and the construction fasteners used on the commercial level. The main difference found between the two is that construction fasteners are actually quite a bit heavier and sturdier in comparison to something you would use in your home.

There are several styles of construction nuts. Below is a list of some of the commonly used nut styles. Unfortunately, to ALL of the nut styles available, we would have to write a book, but it’s still useful to educate yourself on the major ones being used today.

Each of the following nut styles can be used with a mated bolt screw in order to complete the set and become a construction fastener.

-Coupling Nut- These nuts look similar to elongated tubes and are constructed to fasten two bolt ends to each other.
-Cap Nut – These nuts are commonly used when end of the screw or bolt is not desired to be seen. They are often used for decorative finish work and can be spotted by their rounded head.
-Hex Nut- The hex nut is the most common of them all. In fact, you see it pretty much everywhere.
-Castle Nut – Named for their castle-like appearance these nuts are well suited to use with cotter pins.
-Lock Nut – A lock nut comes equipped with a nylon insert. The nylon insert protects the bolt from loosening by locking up the threads tightly. It is also sometimes referred to as the “aircraft nut”.
-Tee Nut – These are rather special nuts and are constructed for use with wood. They have teeth that recess into wood once screwed in place. This design creates a secure lock.
