Anchor Bolt Source - Construction Fasteners Galore
September 24, 2008 11:14 amIf you thought that anchor bolts were used everywhere try to imagine construction fasteners. Both are used everyday in construction all around the world. The only different between the two is that construction fasteners are used practically by everyone. These fasteners are used in everyday furniture, appliances, electronics, and so much more.
Construction fasteners come in many sizes and are a bit more flexible in use than an anchor bolt is; since anchor bolts have to be installed in cement in order to be used properly. This means that even everyday people who are constructing furniture or building something are probably using a construction fastener in order to complete the job.
Not only are there construction fasteners all around us. They are also very easy to install or use. The design of a construction fastener is simplistic in nature and anyone can install a fastener, especially the smaller cousins of the bigger and more commercial grade fasteners.

Just like anchor bolts, construction fasteners have the capability to be customized for special use and projects. The specifications that are used when creating a custom construction fastener are similar to that of anchor bolts.
Both of these types of fasteners, when custom created, have to meet certain standards and safety testing before they can actually be used in any real-life construction. This is done the same way as anchor bolt are. The construction fasteners are testing for their strength, endurance, and a few other things that are extremely important to the life-span of a construction fastener.
This is of course assuming that the design of the construction fastener has never been done before. If it has and all that is needed is a custom size, this can easily be created in the factory.
Creating custom sizing for construction fasteners is simple and can be done quite efficiently. There should be no problem asking a manufacturer to create a custom fastener for you as long as you allow them enough time to fill your entire order in a fair amount of time. You can discuss this with any construction fastener manufacturer.

Anchor Bolt Source- Black or Galvanized
September 23, 2008 1:27 pmConstruction fasteners are just like anchor bolts in the fact that they can be either black or galvanized depending on your choice.
The difference between the two is that "black" construction fasteners (also called plain) are uncoated fasteners that haven’t been dipped in any type of coating material. These fasteners are for those projects where galvanization is not needed.
Galvanization is a term referring to a construction fastener that has be dipped in a liquid zinc formula in order to coat the entire fastener. The zinc outer coating is for those construction fasteners that are going to need protection from corrosion. This happens when water or moisture is introduced to the construction fastener on a regular basis. The zinc outer coating acts as a repellent and a first defense against moisture.
It doesn’t matter which coating you choose other than what is going to be best for your project. There are many different applications for either coating and as a contractor or builder you are most likely familiar with what coating that you are going to need.

Construction fasteners are used in many different applications and you want to make sure that you are getting the right fastener for the right project. There are a few things to look at when deciding on a construction fastener for your project.
Application - What are you using the construction fastener for? What is the project it is being used on?
Body Design - The shape of the bolt’s body is directly correlated to the application it is suited for.
Diameter - The bigger the bolt the stronger the hold. Of course you don’t want to have the bolt bigger than it needs to be, it’s a waste of materials and will end up being a bigger burden than serving its purpose.
Thread Type - Different thread types are going to create different holds. This is important if you are working with certain projects that have the potential to strip a bolt.
Material - The material of the bolt is going to also help decide the strength of the bolt. Different materials are suited for different projects just like the body design.
Drive Type - Do you want to be able to unscrew the construction fastener easily? Or do you want the bolt to be a more permanent piece? Depending on the drive type the bolt can sway either way.

Even though anchor bolts and construction fasteners can be seen as two different entities, there are some similarities between both of them.
Both anchor bolts and construction fasteners have to meet the requirements and quality standards laid down by the government. In the anchor bolt industry both A.B.s and C.F.s have to be tested rigorously in order to ensure that they are completely safe and up to par on regulations. This means testing the tensile strength and shear values in order to make sure that the anchor bolt or construction fastener doesn’t break immediately upon force or even over time due to fatigue.
Construction fasteners are responsible for determining the life and usefulness of many different objects including:
- Machines
- Factories
- Vehicles
- Residential

Of course there is a difference between commercial and construction fasteners and the fasteners that you use in your home. The main difference between the two is that construction fasteners are actually quite a bit heavier and sturdier in comparison to something you would use in your home.
Construction fasteners have a wide range of uses that include commercial use, residential use, and industrial. construction fasteners are used everywhere in almost every project, from small buildings to the tallest skyscrapers.
These construction fasteners include things like nuts, bolts, pins, screws, and hinges. All of these areas can be considered fasteners.
With new construction fasteners being created and produced each day, new uses for construction fasteners are constantly popping up. These tools are high effective in helping contractors and builders secure one surface to another.
Not only are these fasteners available to contractors and builders through a manufacturing level, the smaller cousins of these fasteners are available to consumers in hardware stores and similar venues. These are only the pre-made fasteners, construction fasteners also have the ability to be custom made for any application as well.

Yes construction fasteners can been seen as a few different things. There are some that would say that they are no different than anchor bolts and there are those that would argue and say that construction fasteners are in a class all their own. This isn’t about who is the right party; these posts are assuming that the two are different and that you would like to know more about construction fasteners in the separate meaning of the word.
Below are a few different bolt style that you would commonly see when working with construction fasteners.
- Flat Head
- Oval Head
- Fillister
- Holt Head
- One-Way Head
In any case, these bolts can be used with a variety of nuts in order to make the perfect construction fastener.

Anchor Bolt Source - Nut Styles
9:56 amThere are tons of nut styles, and I could list them all right here, but unless you want to be reading this same post 20 minutes later, I feel I should refrain from doing so. Instead, I am going to mention the major nut styles and some information about each.
All of these nut styles can be used with a mated bolt screw in order to complete the set.
- Cap Nut - These nuts are used when you don’t want to see the end of the screw or bolt. They are mostly used for decorative finish work and can be spotted by the rounded head.
- Castle Nut - Named for their castle keep-like appearance these nuts are well suited for use with cotter pins.
- Coupling Nut - These nuts look like elongated tubes and are used for fastening two bolt ends to each other.
- Lock Nut - A lock nut is equipped with a nylon insert. This nylon protects the bolt from loosening by locking up the threads tightly. It can also be called the "aircraft nut".
- Hex Nut - This is the most common of nuts. You’ve seen this one everywhere.
- Tee Nut - These special nuts are for use with wood. They have teeth that recess into wood once screwed in place. This creates a secure lock.

So here we begin. Lets start off with the different types of construction fasteners. Actually, first let me start off by telling you that there are two parts to a construction fastener, the nut and the head. Each of these parts has their own different styles that you can mix and match with each other.
A nut is a piece of metal that has a threaded hole in order to fasten with a mating bolt. There are many different types of nuts that can be used with bolts to make a construction fasteners.
The bolt is a capped screw that is used with a nut in order to fasten one surface to another. The threading on this bolt and the nut are what keeps the construction fastener from coming undone or from unscrewing from the pressure.
Both of these pieces working together are what we use in construction everyday. It’s not just for commercial work either, most people have seen these fasteners in their own homes.

We’ve been talking about anchor bolts for a long time and I feel that it is time to move on to construction fasteners. Although you may think that these two names refer to the same thing, they really don’t. Sure, you can call an anchor bolt a construction fastener and vice versa but if you want to get technical a construction fastener are really nuts and bolts.
The way that an anchor bolt is installed and a construction fastener is are two completely different applications. Each of these devices also has a different use and situation in which they should be used.
Since we’ve covered a lot of ground on anchor bolts and everything that they are used for, how they are made, and the different types, I think it is about time that we switched over topics.
There are a lot of people that may be interested in construction fasteners and want to find out more information about them. Maybe this is you, doing a project at home and needing to know what construction fastener to use, and you’ve happened upon this website. Hopefully, it will be helpful to you.
